ASRock says Ryzen 9000 CPU issues are fixed in new BIOS

Laying down the better part of a grand for the newest, most powerful CPU can be a harrowing experience, especially if you’ve heard that it has some issues with allegedly compatible motherboards. That seems to be the case with ASRock AM5 motherboards and AMD Ryzen 9000 chips, which have been seeing an abnormal amount of issues. Good news is that ASRock says it has resolved those issues in the latest BIOS.

Granted, ASRock doesn’t seem particularly interested in talking about it. The BIOS fix comes to us third-hand, sent from ASRock to Aussie tech YouTuber Tech YES City via PCGamer. And apparently they had to get it on the show floor at Computex, presumably in a face-to-face discussion at the company’s booth.

But the end result is this: the issue stemmed from an amperage problem with the Precision Boost Overdrive tool in ASRock’s UEFI/BIOS program. The latest update for AM5-equipped motherboards should address it… at least according to ASRock’s in-person representatives.

All the Ryzen 9000-series CPUs affected by this issue should be covered under warranty at the time of writing, but there are plenty of AM5 motherboards that are outside the standard one-year term. (Easy and consistent updates between CPU generations is one of the reasons to go with AMD over Intel.) Good luck to you if your motherboard fails—or if AMD decides it isn’t at fault during the RMA process.
