These unique outdoor smart lights can immerse your walls in color

We’re big fans of outdoor wall lights that shine either up and down or from the sides, but we haven’t seen any that glow on all four sides at once—or at least, not until now. 

With its just-announced Outdoor UpDown Wall Light, Govee is upping the ante with a smart outdoor light fixture that splashes light up, down, left, and right, a setup that’s perfect for casting soothing light shows on your outdoor walls. 

Available today for $129.99 (a two-pack is $229.99), the Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light can bathe up to 12 square meters of your walls in color, with the up and down lighting elements employing RGBWW LEDs (the “WW” stands for “warm white”), while the RGBIC (integrated circuit) left-and-right lights boast individually controllable LEDs. 

All told, the Outdoor UpDown Wall Light can shine in a range of 16 million colors as well as tunable white light, with up to 1,200 lumens of brightness when the light is set to a bright-white mode.

Govee

You can control the light with the Govee app, which packs 64 preset lighting scenes along with 19 custom modes for creating your own light effects. If you’re looking for some inspiration, you can use Govee’s AI Lighting Bot to generate lighting suggestions based on natural-language prompts. 

The Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light works natively with Alexa and Google Home, and it also works with Matter, the budding smart home standard that aims to unite the big smart home ecosystems.  

When connected via Matter, the Govee wall light can be controlled via Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and other compatible smart platforms, in addition to Alexa and Google Home. Just keep in mind that Matter will only expose a fraction of the Outdoor UpDown Wall Light’s functionality to Matter controller apps, meaning you’ll need to stick to the Govee app to tap into custom or AI-powered lighting effects. 

Landing with an IP66 weatherization rating (here’s everything you need to know about IP ratings), the Govee Outdoor UpDown Wall Light is dust-tight and resistant to powerful jets of water sprayed from any direction, meaning it should be able to withstand rain, snow, wind, sleet, and other foul-weather conditions. The fixture is also UV resistant and can deal with temperatures ranging from –4 degrees Fahrenheit to 113° F. 

Included with the light is a screw kit, a backplate, and a series of expansion tubes and twist-on wire connectors—so yes, some installation is required, as the light relies on in-wall wiring.
