the catch with the IPO is you can't sell it within 10 years
IPO is selected at random for new IPO's coming available of the week. You don't know anything about the company until you've already locked in on that option. If it goes bankrupt at any time, of course you get no money and you can't use it for a tax write off in this scenario.
