I've been testing one of the best value 4K OLED gaming monitors, and it's awesome — but watch out for tariffs

The ASUS ROG Strix OLED 27 (XG27UCDMG) is a fantastic OLED gaming monitor with the best specs, performance, and features for under $1,000. Tariffs may hurt, though.

Show HN: Lil digi – play a platformer game as yourself

I've been monitoring some of the image generation progress for game sprites for a while and was really impressed by Gemini Flash. This demo lets you upload a picture and turns it into an animated pixel character (a lil digi gif that you can download). I chain together the pixel art frames and insert the player into a tricky platforming level.

Show HN: A Common Lisp implementation in development, supports ASDF

Implementation of the standard is still not complete, but breakpoints and stepping work quite well! It also has some support for watchpoints, that no implementation has.

Now it ships with ASDF and is capable of loading systems!

Let me know if you like it. Support on Patreon or Liberapay is much appreciated

Ask HN: Memory-Safe Low Level Languages

I am looking for memory-safe languages that can be used for systems/graphics programming. I love Rust, but it often feels like too massive a language with too much stuff going on. Is there a language like C, which is simpler (obviously without all the UB and other problems)?

This is an especially hard ask, given how useful the FP-like features of Rust are, and I find it almost impossible to live without them. Basically, I am looking for a middle ground between C/Zig and Rust.

Show HN: Remote-Controlled IKEA Deathstar Lamp

Repainting the iconic IKEA PS 2014 lamp into the Deathstar from Star Wars has been a popular IKEA hack for quite some time.

This variant additionally replaces the manual, rope-operated mechanism to open and close the lamp with a remote-controlled motor.

The firmware is based on ESPHome, and its excellent Home Assistant integration enables one to implement higher-level features, like a "sundial" where the aperture of the Deathstar follows the sun elevation throughout the day (see the tim

Path is a utility for working with paths

A recent post here got me thinking about my own personal gripes with OS path handling offerings. So I've basically spent the passed couple of days working on a little project in an attempt to rectify the situation somewhat (in the spirit of cross-platform development). It should also work pretty well with existing tools. Let me know what you think, and feel free to open an issue or a pull-request if you have any problems getting it running it on your system. Enjoy!
