I check out the /r/Battlestations subreddit on a regular basis. That’s right, weirdos, I’m looking at your meticulous, lovingly lighted home offices and PC gaming desks, analyzing your choices for hardware and style, because I’m exactly the same kind of sick as you. But this person’s custom-built monitor setup might be the most intense I’ve ever seen.
Reddit user ZealousidealWorry881 posted an incredible, custom-made monitor array yesterday and instantly won the sub. According to their comments on their own photos, the setup is not in fact a full PC-monitor combo. It’s a stunningly elaborate stand for the dual monitors and some extra bits, including a mini display, keyboard keys for buttons, and a USB hub. They said that the enclosure is made from wood, plywood, and “some metal parts,” plus repurposed plastic ventilation elements.
According to the creator’s comments, the side monitor on a regular VESA arm is 23 inches, so I’m guessing the lower screen is 27 inches and the top one (mentioned as 2K) is 32 inches. The smallest screen is a 4-inch LCD (which appears to be connected to the primary Windows system), and the number readout is a digital clock. There’s no 3D printing involved; it’s a lot more handmade by the looks of things.
The whole thing seems like it’s pulled off the deck of what Ridley Scott thought spaceships would look like back in 1979. Oh, and if you’re wondering if this thing is rendered or possibly even AI-generated: I don’t think so. The creator got a couple of comments to that effect, and posted a second photo from a different angle. I can also confirm a lot of the real hardware, like the Logitech Z207 speakers, G203 mouse, and StreamCam. These aren’t really on-theme with the setup, and I doubt they’d be included unless the creator was really using them.
They say that they’re a professional streamer (check that DSLR on a mount), and that they’ll post a video of the build process soon. I can’t wait to watch it.
