Summary of Daniel G. Amen's Memory Rescue

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview: #1 Memory is the fabric of our souls. It allows us to integrate and make sense of the experiences of our bodies, minds, and spirits. It makes us who we are and allows us to keep our loved ones close, even when they are far away. #2 The current staging guidelines for memory problems are normal, preclinical: no obvious symptoms, but negative changes can be seen on biomarkers such as brain scans. Mild cognitive impairment is when your cognitive functioning is observed by you or your family to be mild, but not severe. Alzheimer’s disease is when your cognitive functioning is observed by you or your family to be severe and getting worse. #3 The traditional approach to memory problems is misguided, and it leads to unnecessary disease and disability. There are many different causes of memory loss, and it is no longer accurate to talk about mild cognitive impairment or AD as single entities with single causes. #4 The best way to prevent and even reverse significant memory problems is to identify them early and work to eliminate or treat all the risk factors that may be contributing to them.
