Advances In Post Harvest Management, Processing And Value Addition Of Horticultural Crops

The north-eastern region of India is predominantly a hilly area and inhabited by tribal population with various cultures.Although,agriculture is not developed properly but the economy of the region is mainly governed by it as more than 80 per cent of the population is engaged in farming.The region has the greatest advantage of growing wide range of crops due to its varied agroclimatic zones suffused with moderate temperature and rainfall.The predominance of various diseases and pests on economic crops are the major constraints for better crop production.The intensive researches conducted throughout the country for the management of different diseases of the crops and their inaccess in this region for the benifit of the farmers prompted the school of agricultural sciences and rural development,north-eastern hill university,medziphema,nagaland to organize a national symposium on recent trends in plant disease control of India,New Delhi,Department of Agriculture,Govt.Nagaland,Kohima and North-Eastern Hill Universtiy,Shillong on April 12-14,1989.
