Two Phase Flow, Phase Change and Numerical Modeling

The phase of a matter can be a liquid, solid or gas. The multi-phase flow is the multi-phase simultaneous flow. In energy related industries and applications, the study of multiphase flows is very important. A two-phase flow is the simplest case of multiphase flow. Two-phase flows can be solid-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-solid and gas-liquid. Heat transfer and analysis on laser beams, evaporator coils, shell-and-tube condensers, two phase flows, complex fluids, nanofluids and phase change are important issues in a number of industrial processes and equipment styles. The most common class of multi-phase flows are probably two-phase flows. A liquid-gas flow is probably the most important form of multi-phase flow and is commonly found in a wide range of industrial applications. These include oil gas mixtures, evaporators, boilers, condensers, submerged combustion systems, sewage treatment plants, air conditioning and cooling plants and cryogenic plants. In the meteorology and in some other natural phenomena, gas-liquid systems are also essential. The flow of solids suspended in gasses is essential for pneumatic transport and for pulverized combustion of fuel. Fluidized beds can also be considered a form of solid flow of gas. Liquid-liquid flows can be referred to the flow of oil-water mixtures in pipes and mass transfer systems for the extraction of liquid-liquid solvents. The hydraulic transport of solid materials is the most important application of solid fluid flow. Liquid-solid suspensions are also present in crystallization systems and hydrocyclones. Historically, the usual two-phase flow cases are likely to occur in large power systems. Gas fired power stations and coal used large boilers for turbine steam generation. This book covers state of the art numerical heat transfer modeling; two phase flow, nanofluids and phase change. The flow of two liquids which is completely insoluble in each other is an instance of liquid-liquid flow, such as water and oil is significant in oil recovery procedures. The injection of water diminishes the resistance to flow and the pressure grade into the oil flowing in the pipelines.
