Why should you invest in your home country Stocks/ETF?

I’m from the UK and I’ve seen a few posts on Reddit of people from the UK saying they’re 80% VUSA (VOO in the US), but others have said they should invest more in the UK ETFs as it’s where they live.

What is the reason for this? My ETFs are currently 80% US, 10% Europe and 10% Asia, as we don’t have an equivalent VTI / VXUS combination.

Looking at past graphs the S&P has always returned more than the FTSE index and although you can’t predict the future, isn’t this a good metric to go off?
