Capcom Just Had the Best Year In Its Entire History - Gamerant (Current Asking Price $39.40/Share Symbol:CCOEF)

https://gamerant.com/capcom-best-year-ever/

Capcom had its best financial year ever by selling more games than any other previous year in its history. This was the sixth consecutive year in which the company managed to sell even more games than before, thanks to a few big hitters and a huge catalog with many excellent remakes of famous Capcom franchises.

The Japanese game developer and publisher had a great financial year in 2022, despite not releasing many titles. The company’s fiscal year, which started in April 2022 and ended in March 2023, saw the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which got excellent reviews, and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, an expansion DLC for the original game.

Capcom recently revealed, via its financial reports for 2022, that it sold 41.7 million games in its fiscal year. As originally spotted by VGC, the company was able to beat its own records for the sixth year in a row, growing from the 32.6 games sold in the previous year. The sales were led by two games released within the year: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, which managed to sell 5.45 million units, and Resident Evil 4, which was only out for a few days before the fiscal year ended but still sold an amazing number of 3.75 million units. According to Capcom, most of the sales came from other, older games, including the original Monster Hunter Rise (3.7 million units), Resident Evil 2 (2.25 million), and Resident Evil 3 (1.95 million).

The good financial results also impacted Capcom’s shares, which are being sold at 5,270 Japanese Yen (JPY) at the time of this report. As a comparison, they were at around 3,300 JPY a year ago, and 1,300 JPY five years ago, showing just how meteoric the company’s financial rise has been. It’s definitely a far cry from the time when the company released Resident Evil 6, for instance, often considered one of the worst entries in the Resident Evil franchise.

Players may be wondering how Capcom intends to top its own records in the future. The answer, it seems, could be on rebooting the Dead Rising franchise. According to recent rumors, the Japanese game developer may be working on bringing back the series. However, this was not confirmed officially so far. Obviously, Resident Evil 4 was also released at the end of the fiscal year and it was a huge hit, so it will probably appear as one of the top-sellers, too, and Street Fighter 6 is just around the corner, promising even more sales.
