Did AI exist before 2023

Guys, where did this collaborative effort by all these companies come from where they say "AI" in 2023? Its fishy as ****.

Im not that up to news with tech, heck with anything really. Im just a guy. I go to work and do my job, do some hobbies. Im pretty sure AI existed before 2023.

Did one company just stumble upon it by accident where they said AI and it received overwhelmingly positive response, and other companies just started copying and jumping on the train?

Or did these companies come together in a secret meeting and said something like "gentlemen, its 2023, AI". "AI?" "AI". "Understood".

Man this seems like a big bubble waiting pop. Ill laugh so hard when that time comes. Everybody just goes with stuff, without questioning things. If all the presidents start wearing pajamas to conference meetings, we would probably just think nothing of it. Like "oh yea pajamas, of course". We ease right into it. Nothing is ever suspicious or weird.
