How long do you think you could last in total seclusion? YouTube creator Norme is putting that question to the test, now 500-plus hours into his attempt to livestream in “solitary confinement” for a whole month.
Why? For views, of course.
Norme, who has more than a million subscribers, is no stranger to streaming challenges. Some of his achievements, according to his YouTube bio, include not blinking for 2 hours and 6 minutes, and eating a cactus. The Australian YouTuber also previously set out to break the all-time record for the longest time staying awake. He managed to make it through 264 hours, falling well short of the official record of 453 hours.
As he started his latest challenge on October 16, Norme was hoping to go viral by ">livestreaming his solitary confinement, “to test if I go insane.” At the time of this writing, he is 550 hours in, totaling more than 22 days. He has 200 hours to go if he is to reach his 30-day goal.
Tuning in, you will find the 19-year-old sometimes pacing, sometimes slumped on the floor, in complete darkness. The camera points down from the ceiling into the small room, with just a mattress visible on the floor and a gaping hole in the wall (the result of a particularly testing moment perhaps?).
Though the YouTuber does sometimes leave the room for brief periods of time, viewers have started to express concerns about his mental well-being, one commenting, “this is genuinely depressing.” Another wrote, “I’ll pay $10,000 for you to quit this.”
Others, however, are rooting for the YouTuber to finish what he started. “It’s been 23 days you got 7 days left you got this bro,” one person wrote. “Keep the grind going buddy,” added another. Text-to-speech messages are also turned on, allowing viewers to have their messages read out loud for Norme and all other viewers to hear.
Norme is also earning while livestreaming, as viewers are able to purchase Super Chats to highlight their message within the live chat. For $10 “Norme gets food,” $5 and he will do a handstand, $20 for “straightjacket for 15 mins,” and $50 for “mouth tape for one hour.”
Around day five, the YouTuber began rambling about “intergalactic aliens,” according to Dexerto reports. On day 12, he sank to the floor and said, “I might quit. I’m legit about to quit.”
