Summary Description

Provides administrative and professional assistance to the Library Director in all aspects of Library operation, which includes planning, organizing, supervising, developing and administering of all library services, personnel, operations and programs and is directly responsible for the library's integrated library system.

Routine Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assumes the duties of the Library Director in the Director's absence, including being on-call at all times to handle all matters pertaining to the operation of the Library.
  • Assists Library Director in overseeing and managing all library operations and services.
  • Collaborates with Library Director in evaluating, planning, and recommending library services and facility improvements.
  • Assists Library Director with policy and procedural matters, developing reports, and maintaining accurate statistics.
  • Conducts special projects as requested by the Library Director.
  • Attends Board and Foundation meetings.
  • Reviews and approves staff time clock entries for submission to payroll.
  • Develops and manages staff training.
  • Responsible for the library's physical security.
  • Develops and maintains a collection of print and non-print materials for individuals of various ages, interests, backgrounds, and viewpoints.
  • Uses reports, statistics, and collection development resources to identify the needs of the community and to ensure the collection meets these needs.
  • Supervises the ordering, cataloging, classification, processing, and withdrawal of all materials.
  • Recommends, allocates, and monitors the adult materials budget.
  • Works with vendors to assess products and services, to manage accounts, and to resolve problems.
  • Configures and manages the operation of the integrated library system (ILS), including performance, administration, maintenance, enhancements, upgrades, and backup.
  • Serves as primary contact for ILS related issues and serves as liaison to staff and vendors.
  • Works with the Library Director on budget priorities and strategic direction of the ILS.
  • Trains library staff to effectively use the ILS software.
  • Documents ILS maintenance procedures to prevent and handle system service loss.
  • Maintains interfaces between the library's ILS and third-party products, self-service checkout, computer reservation systems, and web-based applications that require authentication from the patron database.
  • Plans and implements future ILS changes, enhancements, upgrades required to maintain or enhance service.
  • Participates in the ILS community, building strategic relationships with other users of the ILS.
  • Serves as the manager of one of the Library's three divisions.

Typical Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Library Science
  • Five (5) years of overall library experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Certification from State Library (Library Management) preferred.
Supplemental Information

Applicants selected will be invited to participate in two rounds of in-person interviews. First round of Interviews will be held approximately June 7th - June 9th. If selected for the second round of interviews, they will be held approximately June 18th to the 22nd. No exceptions or extensions will be granted to the interview process. The anticipated hire date for this position is middle of July, 2021.
