This free PDF power tool lets you say goodbye to Adobe Acrobat

While PDF files are everywhere, tools for working with PDFs are harder to find. Let’s say you wanted to edit a PDF, merge multiple PDFs, split pages from a PDF, password-protect a PDF, redact private information from a PDF, or rotate a PDF. How would you do it?

It’s a surprisingly tough question. I’d normally use a mix of tools scattered all over the place, typically with a ton of wasted time searching for and trying out possibilities until I find the right ones.

And sure: If you have a paid Adobe Acrobat subscription, you can use that. But there has to be a better way, right?

There is—and the tool we’re about to go over is it. It’s a free PDF toolbox full of useful gadgets and gizmos for working with PDFs, no matter what device or operating system you’re using.

It’ll save you time and money and make your life instantly easier. What more could you ask for?

Unearth all sorts of little-known tech treasures with my free Cool Tools newsletter from The Intelligence. A useful new discovery in your inbox every Wednesday!

Your all-in-one PDF toolbox

When it comes to PDFs, this web-based package really can do it all. You don’t need to install anything to use it, either, and you don’t even need to create an account to get going.

➜ It’s called iLovePDF, and the web version is completely free. (The Android, iPhone, Windows, and Mac apps require a subscription—but the web version doesn’t!)

To get started, just visit the iLovePDF website and click whatever tool you want to use. You’ll find a nice big toolbox of options, including:

  • Merge PDF, for combining multiple PDFs
  • Split PDF, for splitting pages out of PDFs
  • Edit PDF, for adding annotations and changing text inside a PDF
  • PDF to Word, to convert a PDF to a Word document
  • Sign PDF, for signing a PDF
  • Protect PDF, for encrypting a PDF with a password
  • Unlock PDF, for removing a password from a PDF
  • Rotate PDF, for rotating pages in a PDF
  • Redact PDF, for removing private information from a PDF
  • Compare PDF, for comparing two similar PDFs side by side

And those are just a few of the options. Even more are lurking within the website and waiting to be found.

~

The iLovePDF website is packed with easy-to-use tools for practically every PDF-editing purpose.
~

After you select a tool, you’ll be prompted to upload a PDF file from your device.

~

iLovePDF handles all of your PDF editing right within your regular browser.
~

Then, you can follow the steps to complete whatever action you need and download an edited copy of your PDF. It’s just that easy.

  • The iLovePDF website works with both mobile and desktop browsers.
  • All iLovePDF’s features are free on a “freemium” basis. If you want to work with huge PDFs or batch-process large numbers of PDFs—or if you want a native app instead of using the service solely in your browser—you’ll need a paid subscription. But you can really accomplish most typical tasks right within your browser and without paying a dime.
  • iLovePDF promises to delete any files you upload within two hours. The company says it “does not access, use, analyze or store any processed data.” And, again, you don’t even need an account to get into it.

Ready for even more productivity-boosting goodness? Check out my free Cool Tools newsletter for an instant introduction to an AI-powered supertool that transcribes your brain—and another off-the-beaten-path gem every Wednesday!
