Microsoft and its partners have pushed hard to get people interested in the new field of laptops powered by Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon processors, but they haven’t exactly been flying off the shelves. Maybe if they were a little more affordable, like this $475 touchscreen laptop from Lenovo, they’d sell a little better.
The Newegg store on eBay calls this refurbished laptop the “IdeaPad 5,” but it’s really the IdeaPad 5X, which PCWorld reviewed back in November of last year. It was already one of the few entries in the Snapdragon X Plus line that offered a decent value, in addition to the great battery life that these Arm-based laptops are known for. If you go for the refurb here, which comes with a one-year Allstate warranty, you save an impressive $375 versus the retail price.
Highlights of the design include a 14-inch 1920×1200 touchscreen with an upgraded OLED panel, which can flip around for a convertible form factor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage, all well above the usual options in this price range. The laptop offers two USB-C ports, two USB-A, full-sized HDMI, and microSD. It’s not the sleekest laptop around, but for basic tasks (except 3D gaming) it’ll handle them with aplomb and last a long time on a charge.
This is quite the get in this price range, so get it now on eBay while you still can! Otherwise, if it’s not for you, then you can find more great budget picks in PCWorld’s best laptops roundup.
