Microsoft’s AI-powered Copilot rolls out to Windows 10 testers

Microsoft has started to roll out the Copilot AI tool introduced with Windows 11 to Windows 10 computers. Windows 10 Insider test versions get first crack at Copilot, if they’re running a current version of the operating system.

Windows 10 Insider testers can now try out the Copilot in the Release Preview Channel. To do this, you must activate the option “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available” in the Windows menu Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, then check for updates after installing Windows 10 22H2 Build 19045.3757 (KB5032278).

Microsoft will gradually roll out Copilot to all Windows 10 machines over the next few months, including those with the main release versions of Windows 10.

Individual Windows 10 users will get Copilot first. Microsoft intends to include Copilot in the rollout process in a later deployment phase for centrally managed Windows 10 machines in corporate or government use (Windows 10 Enterprise or Education Version 22H2 and Professional devices).

How to start Microsoft Copilot

As soon as Copilot is installed, you can start it via the new Copilot icon in the Windows 10 taskbar. A chat window will then open in which you can type your requests. You can also use Copilot by voice via the microphone icon within the chat window.

Copilot is still subject to some restrictions under Windows 10; for example it does not support multi-monitor operation. The restrictions are explained here. Unlike Windows 11, Copilot is also not available for applications under Windows 10.
