I’m always on the hunt for new websites that have practical tips to help me maintain and repair my broken tech gear. That’s why I was so delighted to stumble across a website called IFixIt.
The site is packed full of handy how-to explainers that show me what to do when things go awry with my gear and I have no clue what to do. Not every fix is listed there, but there’s a good smattering of fixes for things like laptops, phones, and tablets, separated by make and model.
The website also shows you the tools you need to pull off a fix — like this metal spudger — so you can order them in advance. Plus, you can be the first to ask questions and start a new thread if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
What to do:
- Have the item you want to find a fix for in mind. For this article I’m going to look up how to replace the touchpad on a specific model Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop.
- Now go to https://ifixit.com and in the search bar type in the brand name and name of the model you’re looking for and the word repair. Alternatively, you can search by device (choose devices in the top menu) and then select the options that best suit your device.
- If your device is there, you will find a list of things you can repair. Choose the one that best fits what you want to do.
