Printers are easily the most hated piece of office hardware out there, and that’s before they start trying to shake you down for ink refills. So take it from me, a former printshop worker: A Brother laser printer is the way to go. I can vouch for this super-dependable wireless model, which is on sale today for just $63 if you go with a refurb.
I use a Brother HL-L2315D in my home office, and have for years. It’s almost identical to this HL-L2420DW, only a little older — the newer version works better with new 5GHz Wi-Fi networks. It’s a little tricky to set up because it only has a one-line LCD screen, but once you get going it’ll print everything you could ever need (so long as you don’t need color photos). I use it for shipping labels, plane and bus tickets, just about any kind of paperwork, which is the only thing I ever print anymore.
I love the wireless operation, and the fact that it’s happy to take cheap, long-lasting third-party toner cartridges. That’s right, it doesn’t demand insanely expensive first-party ink replacements, like printers from a certain company that shall remain nameless HP.
Right now Brother is selling this model directly from its site for just $69.99, already a very nice bargain. But the sleuths over at Slickdeals noticed that you can apply the coupon code ENJOY10DEAL at checkout to take an extra 10 percent off, bringing the pre-tax total down to $62.99. It’s easily the best deal on a printer I’ve ever seen. If Brother runs out and you’re still looking for a reliable, affordable printer, Walmart and Best Buy also have extremely similar models available.
